Market Research

I with my team conducted market research with students of Northwestern University and validated their responses to understand the unmet needs.

We considered responses from 70+ undergraduate and graduate students studying at the university who were a part of different university groups, associations, clubs and communities.

Responses of most liked application and frequency of usage

We made sure we understood what are they go to applications for social purposes while they are on campus and the frequency they use these applications. Also, tabulated the responses what kind of device do the user uses these applications, their motive and needs for using the application. I brought these responses together to find out that there was a gap for community based events happening on campus because these groups had minimum student outreach and students on the other hand wanted to attend these socials to get a cherishing experience and meet people with similar interests. Talking to communities, students groups and associations made us realize that there is no application in the market that caters such needs of our primary (University Students) and secondary users (University Groups/Communities).

Brainstorming Sessions

User Interviews & Wire Framing

I with my team conducted 15+ user interviews to understand more about these unmet needs and discovered themes. Basing on these themes, we brainstormed ideas to derive insights which would solve the unmet needs of university students to help them to participate in social events happening on campus so they get a maximum experience from their student life.

Now that we had our themes and insights, we collectively collaborated in brainstorming ideas to build features for wire framing of our mobile application and prioritized them according to our consumer insights.

Collaboration

I'm leading a group of 11 students from various academic disciplines including computer sciences, marketing, and designed.

I planned three weekly meetings by considering teammates' free time: one with marketing/design team, one with engineering team, and one with a complete 11-person team to discuss, respond to questions, and be open.

I influenced team to use scrum so that a sprint board could serve as a link between teams, and everyone agreed to follow those guidelines. With different teams focusing on different hurdles, the communication had to be varied.

While meetings with technical team had interdependencies on development, I presented the notion of people joining in a call to overcome dependency.

The meetings with design/marketing team were more of a brainstorming session where I prioritized ideas on user interview feedback.

The application is in beta-phase, where the app is being tested by 200+ Northwestern Students and are giving their valuable feedback. The Application's estimated launch date is 1st October, 2022 for students of Northwestern University.

"The ownership of colleagues at weekly meetings, letting team know what they accomplished and what they intend to do, is motivating and an ideal successful collaboration."

Reach out, I'd love to hear from you
